Not medical or therapeutic advice

The content and tools on Trigger Regulation—including all exercises, guides, scripts, and library articles—are provided for informational and self-help purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes or should be interpreted as medical advice, psychological therapy, counselling, diagnosis, or professional mental health treatment of any kind.

No therapist-client relationship

Using this site does not create a therapist-client, doctor-patient, or any other professional relationship. The creators of Trigger Regulation are not your therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, or healthcare provider.

Evidence-based frameworks — educational use only

Trigger Regulation draws on concepts from established therapeutic frameworks including Polyvagal Theory, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). These references are for educational context only. Using this site is not equivalent to receiving evidence-based therapy delivered by a qualified professional.

Individual results vary

The tools and exercises may be helpful for some people and not others. Emotional regulation is complex, and no self-help resource guarantees any particular outcome. If you find that the tools are not helping, or are making things worse, please stop using them and consult a qualified mental health professional.

Not suitable for all situations

This toolkit is not designed for, and should not be used as a substitute for professional support in the following situations:

  • Trauma processing (especially complex or developmental trauma)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or acute stress reactions
  • Suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or thoughts of harming others
  • Severe depression, anxiety disorders, or psychosis
  • Domestic abuse or situations involving risk to safety
  • Active substance use disorders requiring clinical support

When to seek professional help

Please seek support from a qualified mental health professional if you are experiencing persistent distress, difficulty functioning in daily life, or any of the situations listed above. A GP, psychiatrist, psychologist, or accredited therapist can provide the level of care and safety that this toolkit cannot.
